HIV in Africa and Asia
Poorer countries have all but been forgotten in HIV/AIDS treatments. Proportionately almost no money goes into HIV vaccine research compared to antiviral research. The reason is that there is no money to be made in these countries where the annual health budget is between US$1 and $10 per person. Who is going to pay the $6000 to $30000 treatment costs required for each and every person who is living with HIV in the countries of these regions? Who cares?
